Consider Katniss in the Hunger Games as an example of Evolution -

variation, competition, adaptation, selection. 

Katniss has a 'secret power' (mutation) in her that nobody know about before she is sent off to the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games (selection pressure) reveals that she has this secret power/mutation as she survives as the "fittest" version of her species. The rest die off. She can then reproduce and pass on this mutation/adaptation to the next generation.
